Lufthansa City Airlines will take delivery of its first A220-300 in November, with the aircraft becoming the first German airline to operate the Airbus A220-300 in scheduled service. The aircraft, MSN 55501 with future registration D-ACAA, is currently at Airbus Canada’s final assembly line in Mirabel, Montreal. The delivery timeline points towards an on-schedule introduction to the fleet, with the airline having forty A220-300s on order.

Lufthansa City Airlines currently operates four A319-100s and fourteen A320-200Ns, with aircraft either delivered directly to the unit or moved from elsewhere in the Lufthansa Group. In April, the Lufthansa Group accelerated its strategic decision to replace capacity provider Lufthansa CityLine with City Airlines. The A220-300 introduction represents a major milestone in the airline’s fleet modernisation programme.

The A220-300 offers improved fuel efficiency and operational economics compared to the older A319-100s currently in the fleet. The aircraft’s modern design and passenger amenities align with Lufthansa Group’s commitment to fleet renewal and sustainability. The scheduled delivery in November positions the airline to introduce the new aircraft type before the end of 2026, with additional deliveries expected in subsequent years.
