According to data from Trip.com Group, Spanish travel bookings to lesser-known destinations in Indonesia have skyrocketed by 567pc year-on-year. The rise reflects broadening interest in long-haul markets beyond traditional European and Mediterranean holidays.

Growth highlights include bookings to Thailand’s Koh Tao rising by 500pc, while Japanese off-the-beaten-path areas advanced by 226pc and overall hotel bookings grew by 150pc. South Korean hotel reservations by Spanish travellers jumped by 125pc, while Chinese flight bookings rose by 110pc and hotel bookings soared by 180pc. Spanish holidaymakers are moving away from overcrowded traditional tourist spots and actively looking for fresh, hidden destinations.

Travellers are prioritising natural, wellness, and cultural immersion over simple beach-only holidays, while ongoing instability in parts of the Middle East has redirected travel spending toward safer long-haul destinations. At the same time, Spain is seeing a massive rush of inbound tourists from Asia, with Spanish hotel bookings from Thai and Malaysian travellers rising rapidly. The trend positions Spain and Asian nations as key beneficiaries of shifting global travel patterns.
