Italian airport traffic has been projected to exceed 200m passengers in 2026. Traffic already surpassed the 200m mark with 229.7m passengers in 2025. This is a 5pc increase over the previous year.
Traffic continued to rise in early 2026 with an additional 4.2pc increase through April. Rome Fiumicino crossed the 50m milestone in 2025 with 51.3m passengers. The airport expects to reach roughly 53m in 2026. The National Airports Plan 2026 to 2035 projects the system to expand toward a baseline target of 304.6m to 305m passengers by 2035.
