Indonesia is promoting its cuisine as a core tourism attraction through the Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy programme which highlights local food traditions alongside cultural and historic sites. The programme positions Indonesia’s culinary heritage as a primary driver for international tourism. The 2026 edition took place from 26 September to 4 October centring on Solo and Yogyakarta.
The initiative evolved from Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet launched in 2025. Official data shows that 58.34pc of international tourists visiting Indonesia engage in culinary or gastronomic activities. The programme frames food as a living ecosystem connecting travellers to regional identity, history, agriculture and local communities.
The grand opening was hosted at Pura Mangkunegaran, a historic royal palace in Solo, highlighting ancient royal dining customs. WIG Talks brought together 22 culinary and tourism speakers alongside an Artisan Market featuring 21 local businesses. Indonesia Restaurant Months runs from 7 October to 31 December 2026 engaging 150 restaurants across six cities. A Culinary Festival spans 32 shopping centres across 14 cities.
