Peru has scrapped advance reservations for tickets to Machu Picchu. Travellers now have 15 minutes to complete purchases on the official Tu Boleto website before the reservation is cancelled and tickets returned to sale. Only named tickets are available requiring identification to match the ticket holder. The Ministry of Culture introduced the trial system to ensure displayed availability reflects tickets that can actually be bought.

The 15-minute purchase window requires travellers to complete their selection and payment on Tu Boleto with unpaid reservations automatically cancelled. All tickets are strictly named and non-transferable meaning government-issued identification or passport must exactly match the name on the ticket. Agencies can no longer block or reserve tickets for hours without immediate payment.

Daily visitor limits remain at 5,600 in high season and 4,500 in low season for the UNESCO World Heritage citadel. The Inca Trail is capped at 750 visitors per day. A total of 1,000 daily tickets remain available for purchase in person at the DDC-Cusco office in Machupicchu Pueblo valid for entry the following day. The removal of multi-hour reservation holds has cleared out phantom sold-out slots unlocking availability for independent travellers.
