Antarctica21’s Magellan Discoverer has sailed from ASENAV’s shipyard in Valdivia toward Punta Arenas ahead of a naming on 6 November. The cruise line revealed that the ship was taken over, registration procedures completed and the vessel provisioned on 30 October. The naming is planned for The Day of the Antarctic in Chile.

ASENAV shared that the ship set sail on 26 October at 11:00 and would sail toward Corral for final sea trials before delivery to Antarctica21. The 88-guest ship took almost three years to finish. The 5,900-ton vessel is a hybrid-electric polar expedition ship with polar class PC6.

The Magellan Discoverer is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage on 15 December, exploring Southern Chile and Antarctica. The vessel will offer Antarctic expeditions together with the Magellan Explorer, the cruise line’s first ship, which was built at the same shipyard.
