European tourism ministers gathered at the Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar for the EU Tourism Forum. Hosted by Enterprise Minister Peter Burke, the event focused on a new EU strategy for sustainable tourism with the theme of harnessing innovation, entrepreneurship and digitalisation.
The forum is being held as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Organised by Fáilte Ireland, the event brought together tourism leaders, industry stakeholders and guests from across Europe to enjoy a taste of Ireland’s food, culture, music and Ireland’s Home of Halloween offering.
Held in the heart of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and inspired by the traditions of Samhain, it included an evening at Mount Druid featuring local producers, entertainment and tourism businesses showcasing the Irish tourism offering. As part of the showcase, guests had an opportunity to learn more about the range of tourism projects developed across the Midlands through Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme, funded under the EU Just Transition Fund.
The projects contribute to local communities, businesses and the wider regional economy. The 25th European Tourism Forum took place in Westmeath, hosted by Minister Peter Burke and his team at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment in collaboration with the European Commission. Tourism leaders from across Europe came together as the EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy launched.
Alice Mansergh shared “The theme of Ireland’s EU presidency – ní neart go cur le chéile / strength with unity – resonated for tourism throughout. Europe is the world’s foremost tourism destination, and member states have much to gain from working together and learning from each other.”
