Banff Sunshine and Lake Louise have topped the Western rankings in SKI Magazine’s 2027 Reader Resort Survey. Saddleback Mountain claimed the No. 1 spot in the East for the second consecutive year. The annual guide highlights how North American resorts navigated a lean snow season, featuring strong showings from Utah’s Snowbasin Resort and Idaho’s Sun Valley.
Every spring, SKI asks readers to rate resorts across 18 categories spanning snow, grooming, lifts, terrain variety, dining, lodging, nightlife and overall character. This year’s results come with an added wrinkle as limited terrain and difficult conditions made it challenging to separate a resort’s inherent strengths from the circumstances of the season.
Park City Mountain ranked No. 30 in the West. Readers praised its size, varied terrain and off-mountain amenities, making it one of the West’s most well-rounded destinations for groups with different abilities. Strengths included lodging and access, while weaknesses included snow and value. Heavenly Mountain Resort in California ranked No. 29 with strengths in nightlife and lodging.
