Restaurant Brands plans to acquire full control of Carrols Restaurant Group, the largest Burger King franchise in the US, in a deal valued at approximately $1bn.

As part of a strategy revamp, Restaurant Brands aims to shift towards local franchisees and attract a younger cleintele for its Burger King division in America.

The acquisition includes over 1,000 Burger King restaurants and 60 Popeyes outlets, allowing Restaurant Brands to take charge of the image transformation and modernize the acquired restaurants.

Restaurant Brands also plans to increase the number of Burger King US franchisees to about 400-500 in the next five years from the current 300.
