A convoy consisting of tractors, cars, and lorries is set to travel from the Cooley peninsula to Louth County Council’s offices in Dundalk to deliver a petition against a proposed greenway on Friday morning.
Opposition to the Dundalk to Carlingford Greenway has been strong in the area since preferred route options were unveiled at a public consultation in June, with concerns about the impact on farms and residential properties.
Campaigners, including sheep farmer Matthew McGreehan, are against the proposed greenway routes due to potential disruptions to farms and communities, emphasizing the need for collaboration with landowners in greenway development.
The convoy, organized as a display of solidarity with those opposing the greenway, will deliver over 1,000 submissions and 2,000 signatures against the project to County Hall, highlighting the community’s concerns about the development. The public can make submissions in relation to the proposed greenway on the official website www.dundalkcarlingfordgreenway.ie until September 6.
