Magnitude-7.6 earthquake in Caribbean Sea passes without tsunami

On Saturday, a magnitude-7.6 earthquake occurred in the Caribbean Sea, 130 miles south-southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands, at 6:23 p.m. local time.

The US National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami advisory for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, while the Puerto Rican governor maintained contact with emergency agencies.

The Dominican Republic advised residents to move to higher ground more than 20 meters and 2 kilometers inland but later rescinded the tsunami alert.

Honduran authorities reported no immediate damage and cautioned residents against visiting beaches, while the Cuban government also urged evacuations from coastal areas.
