England’s Queen ‘refused to open airport’ over cousin’s complaint

Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin of England’s royal family, has revealed that the late Queen Elizabeth II refused to open a terminal at Bristol Airport because he had been stopped from boarding a flight from Bristol to Aberdeen with his shotguns.

Ivar was on his way to Balmoral to see the late Queen. Elziabeth Windsor became irritated upon hearing of the incident and instructed her equerry to arrange for the guns to be delivered to her.

Lord Ivar shared his experience with the Queen, who then declined to open the new terminal at Bristol Airport in light of the situation. Instead, the terminal was later opened by her daughter, Anne, in 2000 and its extension in 2015.

He told Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast:“Whereupon she turns back to me and she looks at me over her glasses with a glint in her eye and she says ‘They want me to open their new terminal’. She says ‘I don’t think I will now’.”
