
Minister Sean Canney has launched the new Coast Guard aviation service in Shannon, County Clare.
The service introduces six AW189 helicopters and two Beechcraft B200 King Air fixed wing aircraft to enhance national search and rescue capabilities.
The new aircraft will provide 24/7 aeromedical support and improve maritime environmental monitoring over 132,000 square miles. Director of the Irish Coast Guard Micheál O’Toole stressed the importance of the new base in Clare for effective responses to distress calls.
The Coast Guard’s updated aviation resources represent a future-focused step in improving search and rescue operations for the next decade.
