Tourism Minister Peter Burke has said he expects a VAT reduction to be” front and centre” of the new tourism strategy to be announced next week.
Over 200,000 jobs are dependent on businesses such as restaurants and coffee shops. The hospitality sector has faced numerous challenges in recent times.
The industry has long advocated for a decrease in its VAT rate from 13.5pc to 9pc. A final decision on the inclusion of hotels in the VAT reduction remains uncertain.
