National Ploughing Championships to attract 300,000 visitors to Tullamore

The National Ploughing Championships take place in Tullamore, Co Offaly, and expect around 300,000 visitors from today to Thursday.

Adult tickets are priced at €25, with discounted rates available for students and seniors; children under 12 can attend for free. The event features diverse showcases, including agricultural technology, livestock displays, and a traditional Welly Throwing Competition.

A new Midlands Flavours area will showcase local producers and host cooking demonstrations. Designated traffic routes and accessible parking are organised to ensure smooth access for all attendees. There are  100 entries in the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association All-Ireland Finals – one of the highlights of the livestock section.

Met Éireann warned that Wednesday will see spells of persistent or heavy rain and a possibility of strong winds.

Shuttle buses from Tullamore and Portarlington train stations will be operated by Bus Éireann.

There are eight colour-coded routes:

  • Blue Route, travelling from the south along the M8.
  • Grey Route, travelling from the south-east (Kilkenny).
  • Yellow Route, travelling from the south-east (Carlow).
  • Brown Route, travelling from Limerick, Kerry and the south-west.
  • Purple Route, travelling from Dublin on the M4 or M6.
  • Pink Route, travelling from the north.
  • Green Route, travelling from the west.
  • Orange Route, travelling westbound on the M7.

Those in need of accessible parking will be directed to designated ­disability parking areas adjacent to the site.
