Supermac’s CEO Pat McDonagh has accused the insurance industry of holding the country to ransom. He called for a statutory inquiry into rising insurance costs amid spiralling premiums leading to business closures.
The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation is due to meet on 16 September 2025 to examine public and employers’ liability insurance and motor premiums. McDonagh has previously criticised proposed increases to personal injury awards, warning they would push premiums higher.
He has long campaigned for insurance reforms, including through the Alliance for Insurance Reform, to address fraudulent claims and legal practices.
