Irish visitor numbers to USA in March were 46,459, a record for the month,16.4pc ahead of March 2025 and 15.7pc ahead of pre-pandemic. Figures for the first quarter are now 2.2pc ahead of last year. Rolling annual was 493,010, 2.9pc ahead of the twelve months to March 2025.
Non-US citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries came to 4.6 m, which increased by 0.9pc compared with March 2025.
Overseas visitor arrivals reached 2.5 m in March 2026, which rose 3.6pc from March 2025 and stood at 85.8pc of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume. U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totalled 6.4 m, which fell 2.1pc from March 2025 but exceeded March 2019 volume by 19.4pc. Total air passenger travel between the United States and other countries saw Europe record 5.4 m passengers, up 3.5pc from March 2025.
England contributed 1.5 m passengers in the air travel data, which increased by 3.3pc year on year. Top US ports for international locations included New York (JFK) with 2.5 m, Miami (MIA) with 2.2 m and Los Angeles (LAX) with 1.9 m. Data from the National Travel and Tourism Office confirmed the trends.
Factors included a strong US dollar, visa processing delays, perceived restrictive policies, and competition from regions such as Africa and Latin America. The US National Travel and Tourism Office forecast 85m international arrivals for full-year 2026 despite the early decline.
