So much for the Douro dealfest. Porto was going to be one of the bargain destinations of summer 2017.
Aer Lingus were due to launch the route 2w and Ryanair increasing capacity to 5w.
This week the shamrock withdrew from the battlefield, due to insufficient demand to sustain the route.
Passengers that have already booked flights to Porto with Aer Lingus can rebook on an alternative service or request a refund.
Aer Lingus announced the Porto service along with new routes to Miami and Split, Croatia, on November 15.
Two weeks later, Ryanair announced a doubling of its Dublin-Porto service for summer 2017, with five flights weekly “due to increased demand.”
Ryanair, which currently operates 2w, announced a flash sale €29.99 “rescue” fare sale. Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said: “Irish customers and visitors can continue to enjoy the lowest fares between Dublin and Porto thanks to Ryanair’s five-times weekly service, which is attracting huge demand.”
