European airport leaders have again urged rapid fixes to the EU Entry/Exit System, saying lengthy and unpredictable waits at border control are now putting people off travelling.
Airports Council International Europe director general Olivier Jankovec described the delays of several hours that have caused missed flights since the system launched in April as unacceptable and damaging to Europe’s reputation as an efficient destination.
ACI Europe’s June traffic figures showed overall passenger growth of 2.6pc in the first half of the year, though the pace slowed sharply in the second quarter amid Middle East tensions and higher fuel costs. Industry figures say resolving EES issues must be an immediate priority.
