VINCI Airports, owners of Belfast International airport, has announced a £1.27bn deal to acquire a controlling 50.01pc stake in Edinburgh Airport Limited, which owns Edinburgh Airport, with Global Infrastructure Partners retaining the remaining 49.99pc shareholding.

The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to be finalized in the summer, following a similar deal in 2019 where VINCI acquired a majority stake in Gatwick Airport from Global Infrastructure Partners.

VINCI intends to leverage its experience in airport operations globally to develop Edinburgh Airport by expanding routes, investing in aeronautical and non-aeronautical services (especially retail), and enhancing passenger experience.

Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest airport, served 14.4m passengers in 2021, slightly lower than pre-pandemic levels, with expectations of full recovery in passenger numbers by 2024. Vinci also own Gatwick in England.
