American Airlines has begun preparations to install Starlink Wi Fi on more than 500 narrowbody aircraft starting in the first quarter of 2027. The rollout covers Airbus A321XLR and A321neo aircraft for domestic and short haul international routes. The move follows commitments by several other major carriers to the low Earth orbit system.

American Airlines chief customer officer Heather Garboden shared that the airline seeks world class partners like Starlink to deliver what customers need. Starlink supports streaming, browsing, real time communication, gaming and collaborative tools. The technology provides high speed and low latency connectivity.

The installation forms part of a wider modernisation of the onboard experience. United, Southwest, Alaska and international carriers have already adopted Starlink across large parts of their fleets. American aims to close the passenger experience gap with reliable in flight internet.

American Airlines chief customer officer Heather Garboden shared “Starlink’s high speed and low latency make the Wi Fi more reliable, which matters when customers are trying to load pages, join real time collaboration tools or stay connected consistently throughout a flight.”
