Anantara has unveiled Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, its first safari property in Africa. The lodge is located in one of Zambia’s last great wilderness areas along the Kafue River. The opening marks an expansion for the brand in the African safari market.

Minor Hotels has launched the Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, marking the brand’s first tented safari camp in Africa. Opened for bookings in July 2026, the camp coincides with a wildlife rewilding and ecological restoration initiative spearheaded by the Zambian Government and African Parks in Kafue National Park. The exclusive, off-the-grid sanctuary features just 13 keys elevated into the treetop canopy along a private 7-kilometre stretch of the Kafue River. Designed by Meg Ralph Spaces, the eco-focused property is built entirely on rosewood platforms raised 3.5 metres above the ground. This stilted structure preserves wildlife corridors underneath, allowing animals like hippos, elephants and leopards to pass unhindered.

The camp’s layout includes Horizon Terrace Suites, the highest suites in Zambia, suspended 14.3 metres in the air and accessed via a glass elevator. They feature upper-level star beds for open-air sleepouts under the African sky. Pool and Bush Villas span 115 square metres and feature heated private plunge pools overlooking the river along with built-in indoor massage rooms. The Presidential Villa is a 400-square-metre retreat designed around mature riverine trees, complete with private boat access. Operating entirely on solar power, the camp features on-site water purification plants and zero single-use plastics. To shield local nocturnal wildlife from disruptions, the camp uses soft red lighting throughout the night. Stays are fully inclusive and anchored by dedicated personal villa hosts.
