- Belfast City Airport Community Fund supports Together at Clandeboye
- 16-week programme connects older people
- Up to 30 older people to take part
- Fund has supported over 262 projects with £781,852 donated
- Aim to reach £1m by 2028
Clandeboye Village Community Association has launched Together at Clandeboye a 16-week programme designed to connect older people after receiving funding from Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund. The project invites local residents to come together once a week in a warm and welcoming space helping to overcome feelings of loneliness and isolation. Up to 30 older people will take part in the programme giving them a space to share their skills experiences and stories.
Aaron McMahon, Chairman at Clandeboye Village Community Association, shared as community volunteers they see every day how many senior citizens in the Clandeboye area struggle with loneliness. Many people rarely leave their homes and for some people days and weeks can pass without seeing or speaking to anyone. The association wants to bring people together once a week where they can feel comfortable valued and part of something again. This would not have been possible without Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund which enabled the association to turn an idea into reality. Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund has supported over 262 local projects to date donating £781,852 since its inception with the aim of reaching £1m by 2028.
