Belfast Council approves plans to convert the Stormont Hotel site into care home

Belfast City Council has approved plans to convert the Stormont Hotel site into a care home and assisted living complex. Sinn Féin supported the applications despite local opposition over parking and tourism impact.

The site represents the only purpose-built hotel with over 100 rooms in the wider East Belfast area. Concerns centre on loss of hotel capacity for leisure and business visitors. The decisions passed on knife-edge votes.
