Belfast International Airport handled 1.8m passengers in the second quarter of 2024, exceeding pre-pandemic (2019) passenger numbers according to VINCI Airports’ quarterly traffic results.

Passenger numbers at the airport increased by 8.3pc compared to the second quarter of 2023.

The airport’s strong performance in Q2 2024 was attributed to increased capacity by airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, and Jet2.com, with new routes to destinations like Prague, Marrakech, Kaunas, and Madeira scheduled to start later in 2024.

There were 14,500 total aircraft movements at Belfast International Airport from April-June 2024, marking an 8pc increase from 2023 figures.

Dan Owens, CEO, Belfast International Airport said: “these figures are extremely positive and clearly show an upward trend in Belfast International Airport’s strong recovery. We have had a busy year so far and continue to work with our airline partners to boost the range and frequency of desinations that will not only boost the local economy but provide further choice for local travellers. Our £100m investement plan is well on track with our new £25m security building due to open later in the summer.”
