The 2026 GAA World Games took place in Waterford from 13 to 17 July, with a record 115 teams from across the globe competing in the tournament. Brittany Ferries sponsored Brittany’s four Gaelic football teams, two men’s and two women’s, providing complimentary travel for the teams aboard Pont-Aven from Cork to Roscoff following the tournament. The sponsorship reflects the long-standing cultural ties and shared Celtic heritage between Ireland and Brittany.
The Breton teams delivered strong performances, with Ladies’ Brittany Black and Men’s Brittany White winning their respective divisions. Ladies’ Brittany White and Men’s Brittany Black secured top-flight finishes in Division One. Christophe Matthieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries, congratulated the teams on their performances and stated the company was proud to carry them home.
Gaelic Games Europe’s Head of Operations, Chris Collins, has travelled to Spain with Brittany Ferries on a research and liaison visit to further develop relationships with clubs and stakeholders. The visit follows former Derry footballer Anton Tohill’s recent coaching trip to Spain ahead of the World GAA Games. The initiatives reflect the continued international growth of Gaelic games.
Christophe Matthieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries, shared, “Huge congratulations to Ladies’ Brittany Black and Men’s Brittany White on winning their divisions outright, and to Ladies’ Brittany White and Men’s Brittany Black on their strong top-flight finishes in Division One. It was a brilliant showing all round, and we were proud to carry them home.”
