Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newbery has suspended commercial operations from the morning of 25 August until the afternoon of 27 August for preventive runway maintenance, with the closure lasting between 48 and 55 hours. The 900 flights scheduled across this period have been diverted to Ezeiza International Airport, affecting more than 115,000 passengers. International services will operate from Ezeiza while domestic carriers rearrange their schedules, with Aerolíneas Argentinas offering special rebooking flexibility for affected travellers.

The airport operator Aeropuertos Argentina is executing preventative maintenance on the main runway to prevent future asphalt damage, selecting this mid-week timeframe because it historically sees the lowest volume of weekly flights. Ezeiza’s flight traffic will spike by 80pc over the two-day period, with principal airlines impacted including Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi and JetSMART. All scheduled domestic and regional flights are affected by the closure, which began at 9:00am on 25 August and will conclude at 4:00pm on 27 August.

Travellers have been advised to contact their airline immediately to confirm rescheduled departure or arrival times at Ezeiza. Ezeiza sits approximately 35 kilometres outside downtown Buenos Aires, with car journey times ranging from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Security lines and check-in desks at Ezeiza will experience higher than normal passenger volumes as the airport handles nearly double its usual traffic. Aerolíneas Argentinas has implemented flexible rebooking policies for passengers whose flights were affected by the closure.
