Carnival Destiny is the sixth name to be reused by group

The new Carnival Destiny will be the sixth newbuild in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet to carry a previously used name. The ship joins the Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Festivale and Carnival Tropicale. The practice of reusing names was introduced by the company in 2018 with the new Mardi Gras.

The new Carnival Destiny will be the lead ship in the Ace-class series, which includes three ships built at the Fincantieri shipyard. Ranking among the largest cruise ships in the world, the 230,000-ton vessel will be the biggest in Carnival’s fleet with a maximum capacity for 8,000 passengers. Sister ships are scheduled to enter service in 2029 and 2030.

The original Destiny was built in 1996 and was the world’s largest cruise ship at the time. It now sails as the Carnival Sunshine following a major refurbishment in 2013. The new Destiny is scheduled for delivery in summer 2029.
