Further delays in the European Union ETIAS travel system for non-EU visitors have pushed the launch date to May 2025.

These delays are attributed to continued issues with the Entry-Exit System (EES), which needs to be operational before ETIAS can be implemented. While the European Commission has not officially confirmed this delay, it is expected to be announced by the end of 2023.
Once ETIAS is launched, visitors from outside the EU will need to apply for an ETIAS to visit any of the 26 countries in the Schengen Zone, of which Ireland is not a member.
The Westminster government is reportedly developing has developed its own version of ETIAS, called the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which will begin rolling out in October, initially applying to Qatari nationals visiting Britain. This will not affect the common travel zone between Irleand and Britain.
To help travellers prepare for these upcoming changes, London’s Home Office is holding an online educational session about the ETA.
