Firefighters from three counties have contained a blaze that destroyed the function room of the Glenside Hotel in Drogheda. The fire broke out shortly after 12 noon on Monday 13 April 2026. The bar, restaurant and guest accommodation remain unaffected while some areas sustained smoke and water damage.
A Drogheda fire crew responded initially with support from crews from Balbriggan and Navan. One fire crew remains on site for dampening down operations and safe handover of the building. The hotel closed until further notice with no injuries reported.
Management works to contact all affected bookings. Local councillor Debbie McCole expressed concern for guests, staff, management and emergency services. Joanna Byrne TD shared support for the team at the hotel.
Meath Fire Services spokesperson shared “Meath Fire Services were alerted to a fire shortly after 12pm today at a premises in Drogheda, Co. Meath. While the fire caused significant damage to a large room in the east side of the building, crews successfully contained the fire and brought it under control quickly, preventing it from spreading to the remainder of the premises.”
Glenside Hotel management shared “We are sorry to say that we are closed until further notice. Thankfully everybody is safe and well. We are working towards contacting all of our bookings as soon as possible. Please bear with us.”
Debbie McCole shared “Very sad to hear about the fire at the Glenside Hotel. My thoughts are with all guests, staff, management, and emergency services dealing with the situation. I sincerely hope that everyone is safe and that no one has been injured. Incidents like this are distressing for all involved, especially the hardworking staff and management who will be facing a very difficult time. Thank you to our emergency services, especially Louth County Fire Service, for their swift action.”
Joanna Byrne shared “This is a devastating blow to Karen, Aogán and all the team who have been flying in their successes in recent years, and I’ve no doubt they are in the thoughts of everyone in Drogheda and the surrounding area right now.
