Dublin has been listed as one of the top 21 places on earth to visit next year in the ‘2018 Best of the World’ list by National Geographic Traveller magazine.
Dublin was selected in 10th place as one of the 21 ‘must-see’ destinations to visit in the year ahead. Under why go now?, it said that tourists will “feel at home in ‘Europe’s largest village’.”
It added: “While home to almost 1.2 million people, Ireland’s intimate capital exudes a friendly, village vibe. Stroll around to discover Dublin’s historic Georgian squares and cozy pubs and high-tech treasures, like the new Irish Emigration Museum and revamped National Gallery of Ireland.”
“Obviously here in Fáilte Ireland that Dublin has been recognised, particularly in the top 10 as a must-see destination across the world,” Keelin Fagan, Head of Dublin at Fáilte Ireland, told Travel Extra.
“It really is an amazing accolade for Dublin – the city and the county. There’s so much to do and see in Dublin and we’re delighted to be recognised. National Geographic has such a large reach, so it’s fantastic to get this exposure. Last year we welcomed over 6m visitors so we’re really excited about welcoming more to the city and the county.”
She added that “Dublin’s inclusion on the National Geographic 2018 Best of the World destination list will also help to promote the city and region to over 760m people worldwide in 172 countries who use and read National Geographic’s suite of media and publications monthly”.
