Edinburgh Airport has successfully installed the latest CT scanners across the airport, enabling passengers to leave laptops in bags, with a £24m investment.
Eight new Smiths Detection scanners have been integrated into the airport’s security, along with two additional lanes for efficiency.
Passengers can now keep liquids and large electrical items in their hand luggage, with previous clear bag rules no longer applicable.
Government-imposed deadlines for upgrading airport security technology were adjusted, initially set for June 2024 but extended by a year.
Michael Hering shared that “this will be welcome news for thems of passengers who travel through Edinburgh Airport every year” and noted improvements in safety and speed through security processes.
