Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport has reported positive results from its new Terminal 3, which opened in April 2026. Around 4.4m passengers have used the facility so far and 57 airlines have relocated there. The extra capacity has improved punctuality across the site and reduced the need for aircraft towing and long bus transfers.
Terminal 3 opened on 23 April 2026 with three piers providing initial capacity for up to 19m passengers per year. All 57 airlines previously operating out of Terminal 2 completed their phased transition to Terminal 3 by 9 June 2026. Terminal 2 closed temporarily to passenger traffic for a multi-year modernisation programme.
The building includes 64 retail and dining outlets, automated baggage drop-offs, advanced CT security scanners and an 8-minute SkyLine people mover link to Terminal 1. Germany’s second-largest carrier Condor is scheduled to relocate its entire hub operation to Terminal 3 in April 2027, which will test the facility’s short-connection and baggage-transfer capabilities.
