German accommodation providers recorded 58.7m overnight stays in August 2026. This is a 1.1pc decrease compared to August 2025. Domestic guest nights fell 1.6pc to 48.8m while foreign stays rose 1.3pc to 9.9m.
From January to August 2026, total overnight stays reached a record 340.8m. This is up 0.5pc and surpasses the previous high from 2024. Domestic total reached 283.8m overnight stays, up 0.4pc. International total reached 57.0m overnight stays, up 1.0pc. The previous record was 339.4m stays in the same eight-month window in 2024.
Statistics cover commercial accommodation establishments with at least 10 beds or 10 campsite pitches. The Federal Statistical Office released the figures. The data covers August 2026 and the year-to-date period. The figures show near-record performance for German tourism.
