Brazilian airline GOL is temporarily withdrawing from the US market in early 2027, suspending six routes to Miami and Orlando due to soaring aviation fuel prices. Bookings have closed for services from 1 February to 27 March 2027 from Belém, Brasília, Fortaleza and Manaus. Aviation kerosene has doubled in price and now accounts for around 40pc of operating costs.
The primary cause is a spike in global aviation fuel prices driven by geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and maritime tensions near the Strait of Hormuz. Petrobras implemented an 11.8pc average price increase on 1 October, bringing the cumulative rise in fuel costs within Brazil to 74pc since March.
The suspended routes include non-stop services to Miami and Orlando from Brasília, Fortaleza and Belém. Other regional international cuts include routes to Montevideo, Asunción and Punta Cana. Domestic reductions affect 11 segments including Congonhas to Ribeirão Preto and Brasília to Goiânia. GOL plans to handle affected passengers through code-share and interline partnerships.
