Hotel Curracloe has informed recent guests of a security breach at its booking system provider and advised them on protective steps. The breach at GuestDiary.com occurred in late March and resulted in limited guest contact details being accessed.
No encrypted payment or credit card information was compromised and all payment data remained secure. Phishing attempts followed the incident with messages sent via WhatsApp or email that appeared to come from GuestDiary.com Hotel Curracloe Booking.com or Expedia. The messages contained links to fraudulent websites that requested payments to secure reservations.
The hotel confirmed it would never request payment via WhatsApp or send payment links in unsolicited messages. Guests who received such communications were told not to click links not to respond and not to share personal or payment information. Those who already clicked a link and shared details were advised to contact their bank immediately. GuestDiary.com worked to shut down fraudulent websites and prevent further activity.
