Global and regional hotel companies have explored projects in Syria as the country seeks to rebuild tourism. Tourist numbers more than doubled in the first half of 2026 to 3.52m. Groups including Accor and Wyndham have examined opportunities in Damascus and coastal areas.
Accor is in advanced negotiations for two projects in Syria. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is scouting properties in Damascus and coastal beach destinations. Minor Hotels is exploring converting historic properties in Old Damascus into boutique heritage hotels. Eagle Hills signed a framework agreement with the Syrian government on 5 October 2026. Arada announced plans for a $7bn property and tourism development project. Azdehar Holding is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism to construct The Beaumont Damascus.
Air connectivity has improved with flydubai and Qatar Airways operating flights into the country. Etihad Airways expanded services to Damascus from four flights a week to a daily service. The United States removed Syria from its state sponsors of terrorism list in August 2026. Current room inventory suffers from decades of neglect and is heavily outdated. Electronic payments remain limited to specific foreign-issued cards at select upscale venues.
