Hurtigruten has expanded its Arctic exploration offering with a new six-day tour Northern Delights: Svalbard and Arctic Norway, combining the wilderness of the northernmost archipelago in the depths of winter with Arctic Norway’s legendary coast. The new winter adventure is available to book now for the 2026/27 season, beginning with an adventurous two-day land-only programme on Svalbard followed by a flight to mainland Norway to embark on a three-day sailing from Tromsø to Kirkenes. With the voyage taking place above the Arctic Circle in winter, far from artificial lighting, guests will be in a prime position to witness the spectacular Northern Lights.
The journey begins at the world’s northernmost city Longyearbyen, just 1,300 km from the North Pole, with guests checking in at the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen before being immersed in the polar winter. Highlights of the land programme include a traditional wilderness evening at Camp Barentz with reindeer stew under the polar sky, and a husky safari where travellers can take the reins of a dog sled themselves. A flight then takes travellers from Spitsbergen to Tromsø, known as the Gateway to the Arctic, offering opportunities for independent exploration before embarkation.
With stops in Skjervøy and Hammerfest, the ship sets course for Honningsvåg and the North Cape, where an optional excursion leads directly to the iconic globe monument on the most northern tip of Europe. Passing the historic Sámi sacrificial site of Finnkirka and the world’s northernmost mainland lighthouse, the ship travels along the scenic Varanger Peninsula, with the journey ending on the sixth day in Kirkenes. Northern Delights is available with selected departures from December 2026 through March 2027, with a starting price of £1,655 per person including flight, transfers, hotel accommodation, ship passage and selected activities.
