Ireland West Airport Knock has achieved the busiest August in its history by hosting over 110,000 passengers in August 2026 driven significantly by travel linked to Mayo’s All Ireland football final victory over Kerry. More than 576,000 passengers used the airport from January to August putting it on track for over onem in 2026 for the first time. August numbers rose 3.5pc compared to August 2025 and are 15.9pc ahead of 2019 levels.

Ryanair operated its largest ever summer schedule at the facility featuring 17 distinct routes. High demand routes included hubs such as London Luton, Stansted, Heathrow and Liverpool alongside continental sun destinations like Faro. The airport is approaching onem total passengers.

Under the current airport funding scheme Knock will be penalised for passing the onem mark and lose the opportunity for capital funding for further development. The airport has just three gates and will require another 1,000 car parking spaces.
