Turkish Airlines is the largest hub airline in Europe, flying to 291 international destinations in 128 countries. They have a strong global ranking, holding the first position in the number of countries and international destinations they fly to, as well as cargo destinations. The airline operates with a fleet size of 429 aircraft and has an average fleet age of 9.2 years.
With around 80,000 employees, Turkish Airlines ranks seventh globally in terms of workforce size. Their leadership team boasts an average of 29 years of experience. The airline has been recognized for its sustainability efforts and was awarded as the “Most Sustainable Flag Carrier Airline in 2023” by World Finance.
Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, Turkish Airlines experienced a robust recovery and increased its market share. They have outperformed their pre-pandemic operational and financial performance and have been successful in multiplying their size and profitability since 2002. Turkish Airlines has focused on a well-executed growth strategy and benefited from their strategic hub location in Istanbul. Leveraging their modern fleet, they offer extensive connectivity options to more than 90pc of the world’s population, GDP, and trade volume.
Turkish Airlines has expanded its route network with destinations in various regions, such as the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. They have capitalised on their favourable cost base and positioned Istanbul as a regional hub. The airline has a target of attracting 90m visitors and generating 100bn USD in revenue for Türkiye’s tourism industry by 2028. They aim to increase passenger capacity, manage costs efficiently, and continue investing in their fleet and workforce while maintaining a strong financial position.
Founded in 1933, Turkish Airlines has 20 Subsidiaries and JVs. The company says vertical integration allows them to keep c40pc of the cash outflow within their organisation. An order for 600 new aircraft is imminent, and was expected to be announced since this summer.
