- Amadeus use ap to track golf scors in travel trade evnt
- Karl Lonergan & Audrey Headon the champions
- 110 participants in 11th golf day & 3rd spa day
Rarely, if ever, does holds the host of a travel occasion get a standing ovation. What happened on Thursday when Volker Lorenz of Amadeus concluded his speech at the technology company’s annual golf day. Kickstarted by Peter O’Hanlon and Dermot Merrigan, the 110 guests rose to their feet as one.
Olwen McKinney, Trish O’Leary and Siobhan Boskett hosted the 11th Amadeus golf day at the Slieve Russell in Cavan, its lavish hospitality ensuring its place as a highlight on the travel calendar.
The golfers were treated to burgers and some liquid refreshments on the ninth. The ladies and a few gentlemen were given spa treatments in the Ciuin spa. Beef and sea bass were served up before the prize giving.
First-time golfer-participants included Holly
Best of Virgin who was ably coached round the course by Clem Walshe.
Lorraine Quinn struck a hole-in-one on the 16th with a 5 wood. Appropriately for a technology company, a trendy new app kept golfers informed while they were on the course. There was no disputing the winner from early on in the day: Karl Lonergan swept through the field playing off eight and and Audrey Headon of Headon Representation was the Ladies prize winner. The last group of golfers were washed out by torrential rain.
The last stragglers exited the bar and 4 AM and, yes, the Wild Rover was sung. Roll on next year and a new location. Volker says: “We are running out of locations because we want to be outside Cork, Dublin and Belfast.”
