Lindblad Expeditions has acquired the Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Exploration ships to add to its fleet in the Galápagos Islands, with plans for them to join the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet in early 2025.
Founder and CEO Sven-Olof Lindblad emphasizes the company’s commitment to responsible exploration and conservation in the Galápagos, aiming to provide guests with impactful experiences that promote the protection of the islands’ wonders and wildlife.
Bookings for the newly acquired ships will open later this month, with details on their names to be revealed at that time. The vessels will undergo multi-million-dollar revitalisations to align with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic’s standards of adventure and comfort.
The acquisition and growth of Lindblad Expeditions’ fleet in the Galápagos is expected to further support conservation efforts, education, and the local community, with a focus on protecting the islands’ ecosystems and promoting sustainable tourism. The company’s longstanding partnerships with organisations like the Charles Darwin Foundation demonstrate its commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the region.
Rakan Zahawi, Executive Director of the Charles Darwin Foundation said “for decades, Lindblad Expeditions has set the standards for sustainable tourism in Galápagos and been an extraordinary friend and supporter to the Charles Darwin Foundation and the greater conservation community in the islands. Together with community leaders, farmers, scientists and researchers, as well as Ecuadorians from Galápagos and the continent, Lindblad Expeditions has helped to uplift local communities and safeguard the archipelago’s precious species and habitats. We are grateful for their continued commitment to protecting, promoting, and preserving our home, while showcasing its beauty to responsible travellers.”
