Naples International Airport will completely close for runway renovation from 1 November to 30 November 2026, with all commercial arrivals and departures suspended during this period. The radical upgrade project was originally scheduled for a 42-day window between January and March 2026, but Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC and airport operators postponed it to November, historically the quietest month for air traffic, to minimise passenger disruptions. The €19.4m project involves a total overhaul of the runway and taxiway system.
Airlines are handling the temporary closure with two primary strategies. EasyJet, Vueling, Iberia and flydubai have confirmed relocations to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, which opened to commercial flights in 2024. Travelers can use the Salerno Airlink bus or official fixed-fare taxis to connect to major rail stations for onward travel to Naples or the Amalfi Coast. Major legacy networks that cannot relocate to Salerno are completely suspending service to the area, with Lufthansa Group cancelling all flights to and from Naples for November 2026, affecting connections through Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.
Affected passengers are being automatically rerouted to Rome Fiumicino Airport, where they will need to take a train or bus down to the Campania region. Passengers holding bookings to or from Naples for November 2026 should check their airline’s portal immediately to confirm whether their flight has been canceled, changed to an alternative airport, or automatically rebooked through Rome. The closure affects the airport operated by GESAC and regulated by ENAC.
