‘Blue Monday’, January 16, is officially the most depressing day of the year – so cue the sales pitches by major airlines.
Emirates and upcoming Irish market entrant Qatar Airway are going head to head with sales. Lead-in Economy prices with Qatar include Sydney from €849; the Seychelles from €589, or Auckland from €879 per person. There’s the added bonus of extra discounts for Visa card customers, plus hotel deals with Qatar partners Exedia and AccorHotels. Flights must be booked by January 16.

Malaysia Airlines is claiming fare cuts of up to 45% ex London in its ‘Blue Monday’ sale. Kuala Lumpur on the A380 from Heathrow starts at £379 (€431); Langkawi and Penang cost from £399 (€454); Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in Borneo are from £419 (€477).
