The oneworld airline alliance has introduced an enhanced digital check-in experience compatible with multiple member airlines. The update simplifies online travel processes for passengers across the alliance’s global network.
The oneworld alliance has launched an enhanced multi-carrier digital check-in capability across its global network, making it the first airline alliance to offer full digital check-in interoperability for all member airline pairings. Announced at the second oneworld Innovation Summit in Lisbon, this upgrade allows passengers on multi-airline itineraries to complete their entire check-in process through a single preferred airline mobile application.
Multi-stop travellers can use their preferred member airline’s app to check in for their entire multi-carrier itinerary, regardless of which airline operates the initial leg. The system allows passengers to scan their passport directly within the app to complete international documentation requirements simultaneously.
Individual operating-airline-branded boarding passes for every flight leg are issued at once and can be saved directly to the passenger’s digital wallet. Travellers can proceed directly to security or airport bag-drop stations without needing to visit a check-in agent. The rollout is powered by a proprietary shared digital platform built by oneworld that enables the distinct IT systems of its 15 member carriers to communicate seamlessly. Future phases of this digital network expansion are scheduled to bring check-in capabilities for codeshare itineraries alongside dynamic, real-time boarding pass updates.
