Seajets Goddess of the Night was detained by Italian authorities in Brindisi due to complaints about poor sanitary conditions onboard
The 2,720-guest vessel was seized and impounded by local prosecutors for further investigations. The former Costa Magica, it is one of four cruise ships owned by Greek ferry company Seajets.
The ship was chartered by the Italian government to serve as a floating hotel during the G7 Summit, but was criticized for its condition
Officers set to stay on the ship were transferred to hotels and another vessel due to water leaks, broken air conditioning, and malfunctioning toilets.
The vessel was fitted out to serve to offer adult-only party sailings from Piraeus with all day DJs. A major ferry operator in Greece, Seajets acquired several cruise ships during the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the ships were later sold off and four were retained and, with the exception of the Goddess of the Night, laid-up in different ports across Greece.
