RIU Hotels and Resorts has taken a further step in its sustainability strategy, Proudly Committed, by revealing its official accession to The Code in England. This partnership reinforces the company’s global commitment to the prevention of child sexual exploitation in the travel and tourism industry. The hotel chain joins The Code in England to align its global strategy for child protection. Having been a signatory to this code of conduct promoted by ECPAT since 2012, RIU also holds the distinction of Top Member in Spain and Mexico.
The objective of this alliance is to strengthen global collaboration at a local level. Expert entities recommend weaving a local network of partners from the outset, tailoring training to the specific risks and regulations of each destination, and continuously measuring training coverage and the activation of protocols. Since first signing The Code in 2012, the hotel chain has worked continuously to ensure its facilities remain 100pc safe environments. Over the course of more than 13 years, RIU has developed and implemented internal policies, clear action protocols and recurring training for its teams.
Thanks to the high level of implementation of these measures, the company holds the highest international distinction as a Top Member of The Code in Spain and Mexico. With the inclusion of England, RIU further strengthens its presence in this international initiative, to which it is already committed in strategic countries such as Spain, Mexico, the United States and the Dominican Republic.
