Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas had to delay the departure of its most recent cruise due to Typhoon Dolphin, with the sailing rescheduled to 11 August 2026, three days later than originally planned. The company said the storm moved slowly towards Shanghai, and due to adverse weather conditions, storm impact and the government closure of the port of Shanghai, it was forced to extend the previous cruise of the Spectrum. As a result, the 8 August 2026 sailing was delayed.
Sailing roundtrip from its homeport in Shanghai, the Spectrum of the Seas was originally scheduled to offer an eight-night cruise to Japan, including visits to Nagoya and Tokyo, in addition to an overnight call to the port of Kobe and two days at sea. After sailing from Shanghai three days later, the 2019-built ship is now offering a new itinerary that includes visits to Jeju in South Korea and Nagasaki in Japan.
Guests had the option to either embark on the updated itinerary or cancel their booking. For those who decided to proceed with the sailing, the company offered an onboard credit of up to $1,100 per double cabin, varying based on stateroom category. Royal Caribbean noted that the credit can be used anywhere onboard and will be refunded to guests’ credit cards if unused by the end of the cruise. The company also provided passengers with a future cruise credit in the same amount as the onboard credit, valid for any future sailing departing before 15 August 2027. Passengers who decided not to board will receive a full refund of the amount paid for the cruise in the form of a future cruise credit.
Royal Caribbean shared: “We have been monitoring the progression of Typhoon Dolphin. As a result, our August 8, 2026, sailing has unfortunately been delayed.”
