Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary says that the airline may close its base at Bordeaux Mérignac if the airport doubles its fees as planned.

Ryanair is responsible for 30pc of the capacity at Bordeaux. The potential closure could affect 120 jobs at the airport, where Ryanair has had a base since 2019.

France’s national cabin crew union expressed concern over the possible base closure and urged French authorities to intervene.

Ryanair has been flying to Bordeaux since 2009 and currently has three aircraft based there. A recent bid to overturn higher fees at Vilnius were rejected by a Lithuanian court.
