Spain welcomed 11.5m foreign visitors in July 2026, marking the highest monthly figure ever recorded in the country, according to data released by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE). This represents a 4.6 pc increase compared to July 2025. Total tourist spending for July surged 10.9 pc year-on-year, reaching €18.22bn. Cumulative spending for the first seven months reached a record €82.05bn.
The United Kingdom maintained the top spot as Spain’s leading source market with nearly 2.2m tourists (up 5.6 pc), with British travellers spending €3.038bn, accounting for 16.7 pc of all spending. France followed closely with nearly 1.6m arrivals in July, with French spending growing by 12.6 pc to reach €1.644bn. Germany contributed roughly 1.2m tourists, with spending increasing 11.5 pc to €1.751bn. Holidaymakers largely concentrated across three major autonomous communities: the Balearic Islands captured 22.3 pc of all arrivals, Catalonia followed with 20.6 pc, and Andalusia accounted for 14.6 pc of visitors while securing the strongest individual growth rate at 9.5 pc.
Spain hosted 58.1m tourists between January and July, putting the country on track to hit a projected 100m visitors by the end of the year. Accommodation preferences saw a shift, with tourist rentals jumping by 12 pc compared to a 3.8 pc increase for traditional hotels. Strong bookings for August and September support further growth, boosted by events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Madrid.
